The story of Annabelle became well-known thanks to The Conjuring and Annabelle movies. The real Annabelle is actually a Raggedy Ann doll, which looks much less scary, but gained quite a reputation in the 1970s. Annabelle was given to a nursing student named Donna by her mother. Donna and her roommate, Angie, would often come home to find that the doll had changed positions or moved to a different room. They also found handwritten notes on parchment paper asking for help. According to paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, this strange behavior continued for almost a year before they stepped in and took Annabelle into their care. In late 2020, rumors spread that Annabelle had escaped from the Warren’s Occult Museum, but the Warren’s son later calmed the panic by posting a picture showing Annabelle still safely in her case.
